Gather, organize, and prepare availability working data to enable subsequent tasks that are focused on analysis of the data.

From the data, look for indications that trigger further analysis. Further analysis could be scheduled on a predetermined time frame, such as quarterly.

Indications could point to

  • SLA breaches or near misses
  • Significant deviation from normal operating levels (baselines)
  • Availability or performance approaching or exceeding thresholds
  • Less than optimum use of hardware and software
  • Resource contention
  • Unbalanced workload distribution
  • Inefficiencies in solution/application design
  • Inappropriate locking strategies
