It is likely that the initial candidate list of options to be explored will be provided firstly as input to this
process following the execution of the "Monitor, Analyze and Report Capacity Usage" process. If performing this
activity to restore service (That is address an Incident), then apply an appropriate degree of urgency and potentially
limit the time expended. Subsequent iterations, to identify further candidates, may be required should the initial list
not meet the identified objectives for improvement. When extending the analysis to identify further candidates, the
analyst may be required to consult, liaise and conduct meetings with appropriate subject matter experts, including
end-user business representatives, IT operational and technical teams (For example Systems Administrators, DBAs,
Storage and Network teams), Application Development, Testing and Production Support teams, IT Financial Management,
Service Level Management (For example SLA changes, penalties, and so forth), Vendors and Service Providers. The
analyst needs to understand the business priority of each of the services, which services are utilizing resources and
to what level, as well as the schedule of when services are required. Then decisions can be made on whether it will be
possible to influence the use of resources, and if so, which options are appropriate.
