Role: Data Manager
The Data Manager is a management role, focused on ensuring the efficient and effective operation and usage of data. The role acts as an interface to other service delivery partner groups (e.g. Business Systems, Data Center), ensuring effective integration of the Data Management process with other processes in order to meet service level requirements. The Data Manager is responsible to the Data Process Owner.

Main Description

Responsibilities

  • Manages the effective implementation of backup and restore procedures and working practices
  • Communicates changes and enhancement to backup and restore standards, procedures and technology
  • Reviews backup and restore reports on a daily basis and monitors backup and restore information, standards, procedures, measurements, tools and technology
  • Ensures compliance with data architecture and data management standards and procedures defined in the Data Management Framework
  • Monitors storage management information, standards, procedures, measurements, tools and technology
  • Determine what reports are produced and the reporting schedule. Some of these reports include:
    • Storage resource capacity and utilization
    • Storage resource availability
    • Storage resource performance
    • Growth trends
    • Storage incidents and problem
  • Works closely with Service Level Management to ensure that data management services remain capable of meeting ongoing and future requirements
  • Estimates overall storage resource and budget requirements for Asset Management as input to the IT Plan in conjunction with other process owners. This would include items such as:
    • New technology capital spending and development
    • Staff training and development needs
  • Attends appropriate management level service support and development reviews (Including supplier meetings and SLA development and review meetings)
  • Collates and analyses process measurements associated with Data Management and recommends improvement activities based on service deviation
  • Consolidates and feeds Configuration Management process measurements for management reporting
  • Carries out the Process Manager responsibilities for the Data Management process
