Obtain approval for performing the audit. Identify all of the activities that must take place to perform the audit. Create a schedule for carrying out the audit. Inform all involved stakeholders about the upcoming audit.

It should be noted that the audit may only be restricted to a specific set of Configuration Items and not the entire infrastructure.
