Details

The IBM® Tivoli® License Compliance Manager for z/OS® (ITLMz) is used to manage inventory, software use and license compliance for mainframe data. Inventory information is automatically discovered using Tivoli License Compliance Manager for z/OS and viewed in a task oriented GUI, that is supplied with ITLMz. License information can either be imported or entered into the viewer. Inventory data is automatically associated to license information so that license compliance can be determined. Distributed inventory, software use and license data from the Tivoli License Compliance Manager can be imported into the data Tivoli License Manager for an enterprise view.

The task oriented GUI, ITLMz Viewer, simplifies the work a software asset manager needs to quickly obtain the information needed to make decisions.

The ITLMz viewer is based on software asset management activities such as Find Software; Find Hardware; Find opportunities for low usage software; Manage License Compliance and Find Unlicensed Software.

Each activity has two sections; the Details such as name, due date, priority and search criteria; the Results which lists the data based on the criteria that was set. For example, suppose the Software Asset Manager (SAM) was informed that an internal audit for mainframe software was going to occur in 60 days. To avoid any surprises, the SAM needs to view license compliance for all mainframe software licenses. The SAM could run the Manage License Compliance activity to accomplish this goal. First the SAM needs to input the details such as choosing mainframe software.

Next, once all of the criteria are specified the SAM clicks the Licenses tab, the criteria defined from the Activity tab are used to query the database and return SAM data. Click on the Results tab to view a list of license details and compliance information.

In the Results grid, the highlighted rows indicate out of compliance. The SAM can click on the highlighted rows or further analysis about licensed details, software products, license keys, related licenses, software installation and use, machines, systems, sites and named users.

In addition to running the Manage License Compliance activity the SAM must run the Find Unlicensed Software activity in order to get a complete compliance picture. Unlicensed software is discovered software that does not have a license.

Therefore, the next step is for the SAM to run the Find Unlicensed Software activity. Once again, the SAM needs to input the details such as choosing mainframe software.

Next, once all of the criteria are specified the SAM clicks the Results tab, the criteria defined from the Activity tab are used to query the database and return SAM data. Click on the Results tab to view a list of unlicensed software and use. Additional information such as location, machine and system is displayed. The software that is listed is subject to financial risks during an audit.
