Implementing Your Own IT Processes Using ITUP Composer
Steps toward implementing your IT processes
Main Description

ITUP processes are intended to be neither too simple nor too complex.  However, many IT organizations find that they need simpler (or even more complex) processes than what is represented in ITUP.  When that is the case, you should use ITUP Composer to design and publish your specific IT processes.

The following approach is recommended to do this:

  1. Identify a process as a starting point
    • Select 1-2 additional processes that are complementary
  2. Review ITUP processes
  3. Determine how your version of those processes will differ
    • Simpler or more complex?
    • Different roles?
    • Different workflow?
    • Different work products
  4. Design your processes
    • Sketch out your new process using drawing tools
    • Use ITUP Composer to document and publish the new process
  5. Review newly designed process with stakeholders
    • Incorporate comments
  6. Select tools to help automate those processes
    • ISM process managers
    • Other tactical tools (systems management tools, etc.)
  7. Establish processes within your organization and culture
    • Identify the process sponsor and initial team
    • Carry out the Establish Framework activity for each process
    • Involve stakeholders
  8. Operate the process
  9. Evaluate and continuously improve by performing the Evaluate Process activity on a periodic basis (or as defined by the process framework)
  10. Implement additional processes after success is proven
