Service Execution performs or carries out an IT service to IT customers.  This is typically referred to as the operation of an IT service.  A service is provided via an IT solution.  Various aspects of the service are provided via work requests.  This process also operates the various systems and applications that make up the solution. 

An IT service is performed by a service provider.  In addition, resources needed to carry out the service may be provided by a supplier.  These services are provided via the terms of either operational level agreements or underpinning contracts. 

The service must use monitoring to detect infrastructure events that may need to be resolved using Event Management.  There are different types of monitoring, including:

• active monitoring
• passive monitoring
• proactive monitoring
• reactive monitoring

The performance of the service is measured via service metrics.
