Release Management creates release packages of authorized changes.  A release is a collection of changes that are to be rolled out in the same maintenance window.  The processing of releases is governed by release policy. 

Releases may include

• emergency software and hardware fixes
• major software releases and hardware upgrades
• minor software releases and hardware upgrades

There are different types of releases.  Each release has its own release identification and is collectively called the release unit. 

A release must first be built via build management.  This may include use of the Definitive Media Library (DML).  

Before rollout, the release must undergo release testing and release acceptance, which includes the testing of remediation plans.  If installation does not work as intended, the remediation plans are initiated.
