Event Management deals with events that occur within the IT infrastructure. Events are raised through monitoring of the operation of a configuration item (CI)
Most events are benign, but some are not. It all depends on what is flagged as a event. An event may
represent a fault in the infrastructure, but it may also simply represent the fact that the status of something has
changed, which may not represent a fault.
Sometimes, a repetitive series of events represents a fault. Repetitive events undergo throttling (i.e.,
ignoring specific repetitive events until a threshold is reached) and event correlation. Techniques within Event Management are used to determine whether a fault has actually
occurred.
