A vast amount of data exists within an enterprise. Data management ensures that data is maintained in a controlled, effective manner until it is disposed.  Data has a lifecycle, based on the type of data, as well as the standards and regulations associated with that data. 

To provide effective management of data, a portfolio of managed data is maintained by the IT organization. This helps determine where the data is, as well as lifecycle practices to be performed. 

This process performs all backups and restores of data. 

Once data is no longer needed by the enterprise, it may be disposed.
