A role is an abstract definition of a set of responsibilities that encompass tasks to be performed and work products to be produced. Roles are typically realized by an individual, or a set of individuals, working together as a team. An individual may fulfill many different roles.

Roles are not individuals, nor are they necessarily equivalent to job titles; instead, they describe how individuals assigned to the roles will behave.
